Our firm has been engaged to assist our client, a major global shipping company, in their search for a Director of Credit Management. The Director, Credit Management is responsible for maximizing the Company collection activities, and enforcing and streamlining company credit policy for all group carriers and businesses within the North America region (USA and Canada).
The position manages an in-house collection team and relationship with outsourced collection partner to maximize collection activities. Leads the development and management of customer credit terms. Monitors dispute root causes and address with the business to ensure all gaps are correct in order to prevent future disputes.
Coordinate with each carrier’s/business unit’s Finance team to reduce collection delays
Report on a weekly basis to the North America CFO and President on collection performance
Manage full portfolio of customer accounts within collection systems
Minimize DSO and overdue ratios
Lead collection actions against delinquent customers
Enforce similar KPIs with any third party collector (when used)
Develop plans and pilot organizational changes for an efficient collection team
Proactively deal with disputes’ root causes and invoicing quality
Review, approve or recommend credit terms according to the Company's approval matrix/policy
Ensure yearly review of each credit account or earlier whenever deemed necessary
Take an active part in enforcing the Company's credit policy and assist in improving it when required.
Understand local credit insurance market and identify opportunities for risk mitigation
Visit key and/or problem accounts; Along with the commercial team, negotiate with largest customers on risk collection.
Bachelor’s Degree required.
8-10 years general work experience in Finance & Collection. Transportation and Logistics industry experience a plus.
Extensive knowledge of all aspect of collection analytics and operations. Understanding of operational and regulatory risks associated with current industry practices and trends.
Thorough knowledge of collection related laws. Demonstrates capability to follow legal action with in-house and external legal counsels
Must possess strong business acumen with a good understanding of service contract, basic Tariff knowledge with the ability to interpret rate tariffs and agreements, bill of lading and shipping documents.

Able to work effectively with other internal and external customers
Ability to manage a remote work force
Proven track record of optimizing portfolio risk and minimizing bad debt by establishing intelligent collection processes, thus reducing A/R delinquency and improving cash flow
Comfortable making decisions supporting change and recommending new approaches .
Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to influence corporate direction working closely with senior management.
Possess strong communication skills. Detail oriented and maintains the highest productivity and quality levels
Strong leadership, team building, people management skills.
Ability to work well with all levels of management.
