Responsible for overseeing the underwriting of residential real estate loans ensuring balance between growth objectives and credit quality objectives of the Credit Union. Proactive in problem detection and resolution. Monitors member/customer service standards by assisting in problem solving and resolution of operational problems. Works with Loan Officers to lead a team providing superior member service through setting and assessing performance goals and priorities. Responsible for ensuring that the Credit Union complies with required laws and regulations. Builds positive relationships with all departments and peers.
Must Be Able To:•Responsible for the underwriting of conventional mortgage loans to insure compliance with established policies and requirements. •Monitors the quality of underwriting loan decisions based on Credit Union policies and procedures•Perform a thorough analysis to ensure the quality of each loan and to determine compliance with Credit Union and Investor guidelines.•May be involved in one or several types of mortgage lending (conventional and government-backed, etc.).•Act as trainer/mentor for Real Estate Loan Officers. Assists in training branch and other line staff.•Maintain a current knowledge of existing laws, statutes, regulations, ordinances, policies and procedures pertaining to real estate and mortgage lending.•Work jointly with Loan Officers to ensure alternative solutions are considered in order to meet both the borrowers’ expectations as well as investor guidelines. Exhibits good judgment and ensures accurate and balanced loan presentations.•Effectively monitor and manage individual pipeline productivity and take appropriate action when necessary.•Review Quality Control and/or Post Closing/Secondary requests and resolve issues.•Manage relationships between Loan Officers, closing, funding and third party service providers.•Collaborate with other departments to improve, build processes.•Foster an environment of high energy and continuous improvement.•Keeps Member Experience, Branch Managers informed of issues that affect timely file flow, loan review and closing.•Promotes SF Police Credit Union services and cross-selling of products •Ensure satisfactory audits and timely internal and external audit responses •Perform activities/tasks related to the Bank Secrecy Act Policy which includes General Requirements, MIP, CTRs and events that may suspect suspicious activities. •Assist in special project assignments as requested by Senior Management.•Communicates regularly with Loan Representatives, branch officers and members/customers to ensure quality service is being provided and to help structure complex loan transactions.•Assists in the development and implementation of member/customer service standards, and provides written reports on service standards, including turnaround time. Ensures that member/customer service levels and stated service standards are met.•Recommends new policies and procedures to improve overall operations.•Keeps informed of trends and developments in the local real estate market, as well as changing rules and regulations pertaining to both private, insured mortgages, and FNMA.•Perform other duties as assigned.Education:•Bachelor's degree in business administration or management with advanced industry courses in real estate lending including knowledge of all applicable laws and regulations.•High School Diploma or GED Equivalent requiredSkills & Qualifications:•Minimum three years of experience in loan processing/underwriting Conventional, GSE’s (Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac) loans products required.•Underwriting designation strongly desired •Advanced industry courses in real estate lending recommended.•Familiarity with all investor loan guidelines; and working experience with DU underwriting system.•Experience working in a paperless environment preferred.••Proven ability to underwrite conventional and Jumbo loans. •Extensive knowledge of the mortgage industry; loan department operations; mortgage loan file documents and TRID requirements.•Excellent verbal and written communication skills. The ability to communicate effectively with members and staff is critical.•Demonstrated skills in organization and strong attention to detail.•Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite•Must be a quick learner and possess the ability to manage multiple priorities.•Must be able to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.•Must be able to build and maintain effective relationships with members and staff •Ability to actively listen, interview to gather pertinent loan information •Ability to identify additional opportunities for products and services to build member loyalty •Critical thinking skills using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative loan solutions •Knowledge of state and federal compliance requirements •Ability to evaluate needs of member applicants and provide effective advice and guidance Physical Requirements:•Regularly required to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer•Must be able to remain in a stationary position up to 50% of the time•Frequently required to position self and move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery•Must be able to detect and exchange accurate information to and from appropriate parties•Must occasionally move, transport up to 10- 25 lbs.•Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functionsOther Requirements •Be available and willing to work such hours per day or per week as the Credit Union determines is necessary or desirable to meet business needs.•Be available and willing to work such weekends as the Credit Union determines are necessary or desirable to meet business needs.•Be available and willing to travel to such locations and with such frequency as the Credit Union determines is necessary or desirable to meet business needs.
